The Bob Pugh Award is given to a young Drumheller hockey player based on their ability to show unbridled sportsmanship as well as respect to coaches, players and officials.  This year, Seth Leavitt was the recipient of that award.

"I collect the names (of the nominated players) and give them to the refs," explained Karie Drouin, the Special Events Coordinator for Drumheller Minor Hockey. "Then the refs choose the recipient."

Leavitt's coaches with the Encana Atom B Raptors put his name forward as a nominee.

"I was confused," Seth Leavitt said. "But (I was) very happy I was getting an award!"

The award is given out annually at the Drumheller Minor Hockey Association Annual General Meeting.

"It's not always the top scorer or the most skilled player," said Drouin. "It's the one who shows sportsmanship. It's a pretty cool thing."

Bob Pugh was a long time community member that coached his children and other children in hockey, as well as refereed. When Pugh passed away, his children wanted to do something to honor his memory and set up the Bob Pugh Award.
