31-year old Kristyne De Mott isn't just the youngest Councillor on the current Town Council, she might be the youngest Councillor in Drumheller history.

Her election campaign focused on her youth and ideas to make Drumheller a place where young people and families would want to settle down.

Now, four months in, De Mott is settling well into her new role.

"It's actually going really well," she said. "I'm totally on a friendship level with the other Council members now. It's been awesome. It's been so, so awesome."

She explained that the other Councillors welcomed her with open arms and were not put off by her youth or lack of experience.

"It's been really good. I'm really enjoying it, and I'm working my butt off. I'm hoping to see some great things and I'm hoping to get the youth voice spoken."

How is De Mott spreading that youth voice?

"Every meeting and every day that I'm in there, I'm constantly trying to push that youth perspective forward and give them that perspective from 'Hey, you know, the kids, they don't really like to talk face to face, you've got to text them!'"
