It's an honor to help students reach their musical potential.

Yesterday, June 28, Drum FM gave Drumheller Valley Secondary School a cheque that will cover some costs when it comes to the DVSS music program.

"We got a cheque today for $1,000," explained band teacher from DVSS, Virginia Sakofsky. "This well help maintain the amazing equipment we've been able to buy: guitar amps, guitar strings, tuners and all the little things we need to sustain the program."

Golden West Broadcasting, 99.5 Drum FM's parent company, takes the support of investing in local artists seriously. In previous years, Drum FM has presented this cheque to individual artists as well as other schools and music programs.

"As part of our commitment to our local community, 99.5 Drum FM and Golden West Broadcasting are delighted to help local organizations develop and promote local musical talent," stated  Drum FM Station Manager Dennis Harder. "This money is going to the DVSS music department for the band and music program and it is a part of the Canadian Content Development funding which Golden West Broadcasting provides in our local communities across the country."

"Music makes people smarter," reaffirmed Sakofsky. "(It) makes them better citizens and allows them to be creative in a way they wouldn't have otherwise been."
