Drumheller work crews move quickly on fixing a water-main break on Highway 575 earlier this week.

As completion to the culvert on Highway 575 and Pleog Street ended, work crews were greeted with an unexpected issue of a water main break.

"We had tried to do a repair on it yesterday. The repair didn't hold so what we were going to do today is we're going to shut off the water line for a small portion of the residents out there, cut the existing line piece out and replace it with a new line," explained Drumheller CAO Darryl Drohomerski.

"It's expected to be completed and open early this afternoon."

In the same area of the water main break, buried underground were a gas line, waste water line and a Telus fiber Optik line. Dromhomerski said they were relieved to see that it was just the water line, among the many, that had the issue as it isn't as a difficult job to fix.

"There is no detour but we have flag persons out there. There is a one lane restriction and have flag persons out there in the daytime to coordinate one-way traffic," the CAO concluded.

For the most part, according to Drohomerski, the work should be done by the end of the day today. If using the area, watch out for flag people and limit your speed.
