The latest influx of water in Newcastle isn't coming from rain or snow -- there's a water main break.

The water main break is on 12 st SW, just off South Railway Ave. and next to Ralston.

Armia Mikhaiel, Drumheller's Director of Infrastructure Services, explained what happened.

"We had a water break on Saturday afternoon around three o'clock and we tried to isolate it, but we found that if we isolate it, we'll shut the water off for the trailer court."

Fortunately, the Town found a workaround that lets them repair the water line. Unfortunately, Mother Nature is slowing the crews down.

"There is a crew right now on-site to remove the snow and frost to prepare for repair," Mikhaiel elaborated. "Wintertime is harsh and, with lots of snow and ice-packing during the weekend, we have to remove this first before we start excavation."

As for what caused the break in the first place, it's a mystery until they get underground and have a look.

"That's something we cannot find out until we excavate and see what kind of failure it is. There are too many factors."

The Town of Drumheller announced the problem early on Monday, Feb. 12 and ask people to watch out for crews working in the area over the next two days.
