Another one of Drumheller's iconic downtown dinosaurs is no more. The red Tyrannosaurus dubbed Post-o-saurus was badly damaged Wednesday evening, August 29.
"A visitor to the valley was travelling eastbound on Railway Avenue and made a left turn onto 1 Street by the Post Office," outlined Corporal Gerald Sherk of the Drumheller RCMP. "They turned in front of an oncoming vehicle which hit the van, causing it to spin out, taking out the street sign, a fire hydrant and ultimately landing on the dinosaur."
Two people in the camper van were treated at the scene by EMS and released. No one in the other vehicle was hurt. Cpl. Sherk said it's a good reminder to drive defensively in Drumheller during tourist season.
"It's not so much that they're not paying attention, but being unfamiliar with the streets and unfamiliar with where they're going, there's more chance for error," he argued. "Just the amount of traffic that comes into our valley during tourist season, unfortunately these things happen."
"The driver of the van has been charged with making an unsafe left hand turn resulting in an accident," he reported. "They're from quite far away, so hopefully they're going to make their way home safely because their vehicle is not driveable."
Earlier this month, the dinosaur in front of Shoppers Drug Mart was picked up by town crews to be taken in for repairs.
