The Family Day long weekend is nearing and that has Drumheller FCSS is encouraging valley residents to unplug their devices.

Family Day Unplugged will return to the Badlands Community Facility, Aquaplex, and Memorial Arena on February 20.

"We've got at the BCF, events taking place between 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., said FCSS Coordinator April Harrison. "This year we've got an obstacle course inflatable, which is really cool. Crafts (and) family board games will all be in the Field House and Multi-purpose rooms. Family Fun committee will be helping out with that."

The Royal Tyrrell Museum is also getting in on the celebrations by offering free admission and special programs throughout the day. A toonie swim will take place at the Aquaplex and there will be free public skating at the Drumheller Memorial Arena.

The day encourages local families to spend quality time together and take a break from various smart devices, television sets and computers.

Harrison says the FCSS departments in Drumheller, Coronation and Lamont County have a friendly competition running to see which family spends the most amount of time together and unplugged from technology. Families can will have an opportunity to fill out a short survey indicating their minutes and be entered to win prizes.

Residents can follow Family Day Unplugged events by visiting the Drumheller FCSS Facebook page.
