With the announcement by Rick Strankman that he is leaving the United Conservative Party, what does this mean for the local UCP Riding Association and the new UCP nominee? DrumFM reached out to the local representatives of the party to get their reaction to Strankman leaving.
Dave Mohl, UCP Constituency Association President for the Drumheller - Stettler riding was disappointed on his departure. "From a constituency association president's point of view, I'm disappointed with his decision, but I mean it is what it is."
Nate Horner, UCP Candidate for the Drumheller - Stettler riding has a similar view on Strankman's farewell to the party. "I was surprised to say the least and a little disappointed for sure but I would like to thank Rick for his dedication and his service to the people of Alberta, specifically Drumheller - Stettler, and just want to wish him well."
As for the UCP party in our area, it is business as usual. With the next election on the horizon, Horner knows that it is about more than the party, "This next election is about Alberta and our future and that a lot of people are counting on us."
Strankman will continue to represent the Drumheller - Stettler riding in the Legislature until the next election.
