The Drumheller fountain has been dry lately but we can hopefully soon enjoy its water once again.

Earlier this month, there was a leak found in the outdoor pool at the Drumheller Aquaplex as well as the fountain.

The town has recently fixed and opened the pool and are moving their focus to the fountain.

"We know we have a huge leak in either the drain line or the supply line to the fountain; it actually drains the entire fountain every night. The solution for it is to put a slip line in, so a rubber liner inside the pipe," informed Drumheller CAO Darryl Drohomerski.

Fixing the fountain seems to pose more of a challenge than the outdoor pool.

"The trick with this one is there is a number of bends and turns, so it is very specialized work, We found a company locally, and by locally we mean in Alberta, that can actually do the work. The process now is just trying to coordinate the availability of parts. The expectation is that it will be fixed in July," said Drohemerski.

Having both the outdoor pool and the fountain out of service at the same time caused stress on the town, as well as tourists.

"The outdoor pool and the fountain at the same time were testing our resources as far as looking at repairing this stuff. You are at the mercy of companies that are very specialized. They are telling you that they can't do it for three weeks. You aren't phoning someone down the street to do this instead," concluded Dromherski.
