Officers with Drumheller's Protective Services Department are investigating an illegal garbage dump east of town on the hill overlooking Rosedale.

Sometime late last week, someone dumped a load of roofing materials in the ditch alongside Roper Road.

"We tend to treat garbage, no pun intended, as garbage, so little value to it," quipped Darryl Drohomerski, the town's CAO. "People don't look at the idea that they have a responsibility to get rid of these materials in a responsible manner."

"Garbage tends to be one of those things that people tend to feel there's no value in the actual disposal ot it, therefore they don't bother trying to do the right thing," he elaborated.

The illegally dumped materials include a lot of old shingles, as well as five gallon buckets and even a broken ladder.

"We are doing some investigation on it to try to look at if there's any identifiable information in that pile," Drohomerski explained. "That's usually how we go and then try to charge somebody with illegal dumping."

Anyone who has information that can help is asked to call Protective Services at Drumheller Town Hall, 403-823-1363.
