With warmer weather in the forecast this week, you can expect streets and sidewalks to alternate between icy and messy. There could also be a lot of flowing water as the snow melts, and it all has to go somewhere.

The Town of Drumheller's Infrastructure Services Department is getting ready for the melt, but they could also use your help.

"If they have catch basins (gutter drains) close to their property or their driveway, it would be great if they cleared this catch basin if it has ice or snow," remarked Director of Infrastructure Services Armia Mikhaiel. "When it starts melting and they see some water backup, we'd highly appreciate it if they contact us immediately so we can send some of our crews to take care of this."

"There are some residents that are even using their own equipment to help out. A few of them approached us to ask about the designated area where they can push the snow, which is a great help for us, we appreciate it," added Mikhaiel. "If somebody is in doubt and doesn't know where to push the snow, he's more than welcome to contact us and we can direct him."

The main switchboard number at Drumheller Town Hall is 403-823-6300.

Mikhaiel says it's way too soon to worry about the possibility of flooding, but he knows that our roads could break out in potholes when the frost comes out of the ground.

"There's not much we can do within this weather, because if we use cold patching, mostly it will pop out again," he pointed out. "It's better to wait until it melts; then we see what we can take care of."
