An Alberta Emergency Alert was issued this evening, June 2, for a tornado watch, which has been called off.

The tornado touched down near Three Hills.

"There was some damage to buildings. Three Hills fire department got called out to some farms east of Three Hills where there was property damage including trees and a building," stated spokesman for Kneehill County, Deb Grosfield.

"What I understand is there was one injury, but they were transported and medical officials took over. It sounded like they were transported and are okay as far as I know, but I'm not on scene," she noted.

The warning wasn't expected and Grosfield wants to get the word out of the Alberta Emergency app.

"I think it caught everyone off guard and as soon as the warning was issued, it was basically all by sight. Somebody saw it just west of Three Hills and called it in. The alerts were issued immediately, but there definitely wasn't a lot of time between," concluded Grosfield.
