The Salvation Army is breaking ground today on the renovations on their new building.
Captain Jennifer Hillier and her husband, Captain Shane Hillier, have been waiting for this day for a long time. They couldn't be more excited to begin this project and are confident that everything will go as planned.
Captain Hillier says, "It's taken us a couple of years to get to the place where we were able to purchase and begin renovations. It's very exciting. This year in 2018, The Salvation Army celebrates 100 years here, in Drumheller."
The building is located across from DrumFM on the other side of South Railway Ave at 90 South Railway Avenue. This used to be the old Atco Electric building.
Capt. Hillier explains that, "This building will house our thrift store, food-bank and church. Everything under one roof which will be great for us operationally."
With The Salvation Army under renovations, how long will Drumheller have to wait? Not too long according to the captain as she states, "We are looking at 4 months. Late spring or early summer is when we expect to be making the move."
With 100 years, comes a 100 year celebration. Hillier explains that later in the year they will have a 100th year anniversary celebration and will be inviting the community to come in and celebrate with The Salvation Army and that they are excited to continue to service this community.
Congratulations Captains, good luck on the renovations.
