If you have good equipment and a good hall to work and train out of, it can make all the difference.

Last year it was announced that the Munson Fire Hall would under go a  complete overhaul in relocation and building concept. The new building has a $2.5 million price tag, will have three truck bays and an extended training ground on the premises.  The station will also include a truck water fill station, new communications technology and backup generators.

"The original finish date was supposed to be December," informed Steven Wannstrom, the fire chief in Munson, "they(the contractors) figure it will be complete, the building itself, by mid April. It's been in the works for quite some time, over a year."

Waiting for a new building is apart of the process when it comes to completely relocating a firehouse and with a $2.5 million price tag, the overall functionality of the building will pay off.

"It's going to give us a good training area. In Munson, at our fire hall now, we are pretty tight squeezed to get our trucks in. One truck doesn't even sit in the fire hall because there is no room for it," Wannstrom continues, "It's going to be great.  We will have room to grow and room to train. It's going to be an excellent addition to the county for sure."

According to Wannstrom, The Munson Fire Hall has held steady with 18 staff for the 28 years Wannstrom has been on the force.  Some come and some go but having a new, fully operational fire house can make keeping recruits an easier job.

"You get some of these things that help keep people interested. If you have good equipment and a good hall to work and train out of, it can make all the difference."

Wannstrom is hoping the new fire hall will be ready for a move-in by mid April, which doesn't account for the outside area which will need to be cleaned up and foreshadows a grand opening for sometime in June.
