Police scanners in the valley were active on Tuesday morning as RCMP from multiple detachments chased down suspected thieves.
Around 4:30 a.m. someone broke into a business in Hussar and stole the ATM cash machine. Three hours later, police were called by a farmer north of Bassano who foiled thieves trying to steal a vehicle. He chased them until one of the passengers pointed a gun out of the suspects' vehicle and he let them go.
Shortly afterwards, RCMP spotted the truck and began a chase that ended when the suspects became stuck in a farmer's field. Drumheller RCMP were called to assist and a man and woman were arrested at the scene. A second man fled on foot, but was tracked down by a police dog. No-one was hurt.
All three suspects remain in custody with charges pending.
