Prepare to get slammed in Drumheller next month.

A group of local literati have decided to hold the valley's first ever story slam on Sunday, February 5 at Sublime Food and Wine.

"It's an opportunity for a person, an individual, to get up in front of a crowd of supportive folk and tell a story," explained Jay Russell, who is helping to organize the slam. "In some organizations it's something about your own personal journey and in other organizations it might be a little bit closer to a Ted Talk, a little bit more formal. For this particular story slam, we're looking at the informal, the personal story."

The theme of this inaugural story slam is 'beasts.'

"It can be a literal thing like beasts that scare you at night or beasts of burden, which would make sense in the Drumheller Valley with the coal mining and the agriculture, there was lots of animals here, or it could be more proverbial," outlined Russell. "It's a chance to get your creative juices flowing and interpret and adapt what that theme would be."

He said it's kind of like sitting around a campfire except that you're warm and cozy and there's food.

Tickets are $10 at the door. It'll start at 7:30 p.m. and go until 10:30 or 11:00. For more information, check out this link.
