Visitors to downtown Drumheller will have something new to entertain them this summer.

Outdoor speakers are playing music outside a number of shops and businesses on 3 Avenue.

"I'm really liking them: I think it's a pretty neat addition to downtown," said John Shoff of Reality Bytes, one of the participating businesses. "It's something more to attract people to come and walk around, especially in the evenings, just one more thing to get people out and about walking."

The outdoor speakers were the brainchild of Bob Sheddy, who took the idea to Shoff, who helped to make it happen. They were installed between December, 2017 and the end of March, 2018.

"I believe there's seven right now and we have two more going up down by the Chamber of Commerce, and then we're hoping to put a few more on Centre Street kind of in between the (Memorial) Arena and the 3 Avenue intersection," stated Shoff.

"In addition to the outdoor music you also get free WiFi if you're out on the street as well, so it's kind of an added bonus," he noted. "We also have the ability to adjust the volume per speaker and play content like a live band or, if there's a special event going on, we'll have the ability to play that through the speakers as well."
