This is Small Business Week in Canada, a time to pay attention to the entrepreneurs in our communities and to show appreciation for all that they do.

"Small Business Week is actually something that the Business Development Bank of Canada created years ago, I guess to recognize small business and bring awareness to it and kind of remind everybody how important it is to Canada's economy," explained Marley Henneigh of the Drumheller and District Chamber of Commerce.

"When you're talking about small business, the definition used for that is less than 100 employees and I would say that's a very big chunk of the businesses in our area," she continued.

The Drumheller Chamber has a couple of special events planned to mark the week: they hosted another Lunch & Learn Tuesday at the Canalta Jurassic Inn and will host the valley's women this Thursday with a Women in Business Mixer, again at the Canalta Jurassic.

"This year, the theme for Small Business Week is 'digitizing your business,' so they've got a bunch of resources and tips on how to make sure that your business is current with digital trends," outlined Henneigh. "(It's) becoming more and more important, especially in retail, but for all businesses to have a digital presence."
