Driving in the winter can cause some anxiety, even if you are an experienced driver, in town and on highways.
Tips and techniques are always useful during snowfall or temperatures dropping, causing freezing, slippery roads.
99.5 DRUM FM talked to Nick Contenti, a local driving instructor, for an oilfield service company, about
some basic tips and recommendations for winter driving.  Nick suggests, to "Slow sooner when approaching intersections, and look far ahead to see what traffic is doing."
"Turn your lights on.  Don't assume anything about other drivers and keep your eyes moving."
Some skidding control techniques are, "If you have anti-lock brakes and they are kicking in, keep pressing on the brake."

If you do not have anti-lock brakes and are sliding into the ditch, "Stay off the brakes, then steer where you want to go."
Contenti reminds us, the most common, preventable winter driving accidents are speed related and braking too late at intersections.
Be careful driving out there. Mother Nature can be unpredictable and unfortunately, we have a couple more months to look forward to this winter.
