Rosebud Theatre fell victim to a struggling Alberta economy this year. In the first quarter of 2017, the organization lost $50,000 worth of corporate sponsorships, explained Executive Director Frank Nickel.

"We had a few of our sponsors be able to phone us in January, February, March and just say they're not able to make the commitment,"

In response, Rosebud launched a matching fundraising campaign. Core donors pledged up to $25,000 to match any donations Rosebud could collect by September 2nd.

"The response was tremendous," revealed Nickel. "We achieved, not only $50,000, we more than doubled it. It's just going to be over $105,000 or $110,000 in donations that came through the Shoot the Moon campaign, which has made a tremendous difference."

"We also did this new thing. We did texting via donation through the Mobile Giving Foundation of Canada," explained Nickel. Rosebud made a video asking for mobile donations and shared it on Instagram and on Facebook. "We had over 350 texts from all across Canada, totalling over $5,000 of giving, just from the texting campaign."

Rosebud's next fundraising effort is their Christmas campaign when they hope to raise between $50,000 and $75,000.
