Some local kids, who would not otherwise, are going to be wearing new shoes to school this fall.
For the second year, Grace Lutheran Church in Drumheller is collecting new children's shoes from the congregation to give to local children in need.
"It can be kind of expensive to send kids back to school, "explained church spokesman Lynn Hemming. "We feel God has blessed us and we'd just like to be a blessing to the community."
"I think every kid deserves a new pair of shoes to go back to school, so we're glad to be able to help out," argued Hemming, who is a retired school teacher. "It's one of a number of different initiatives that we do."
The program runs until September 4, just before the kids go back to school.
"They can phone Grace Lutheran Church (403-823-3192): if no-one is there, leave a message and we'll be sure to meet up," added Hemming. "We like to meet with the people so the kids can choose their own shoes."
