Drumheller's Ramada Hotel had more visitors than usual this past weekend as dozens of people lined up for the chance to be in a TV series.
Producers for the Netflix series Lost in Space will be shooting in the area this fall and they came to town early to sign up extras for the show.
"We are doing an open casting call for the show Lost in Space," explained Background Casting Director Alyson Lockwood. "It's Season Two and we're doing a unit shoot in the Drumheller area, over in the Horseshoe Canyon area."
"We're shooting from September 10 to the 21st of September," she added.
The series is a remake of the popular 1960's TV show Lost in Space, which was itself a futurist retelling of the old Swiss Family Robinson tale. It stars Molly Parker, Toby Stephens, Parker Posey and Ignacio Serricchio.
"We always tend to go into the areas that we're shooting at to give the local people an opportunity to come out and work," stated Lockwood. "It's close by, everybody works together and the community comes together and it's usually a fun opportunity for people."
Season Two of Lost in Space isn't expected to be released on Netflix until late 2019.
