It looks like Drumheller residents can expect to see a new garbage waste disposal company sooner than later.
For the average residential person, this doesn't really mean a lot.
"The collection days will stay the same and so they shouldn't notice anything different. The biggest difference is the commercial businesses, GFL will be coming around asking to sign up with them," stated Julia Fielding, Economic Development and Communications Officer for the Town of Drumheller.
Drumheller hasn't made any solid waste disposal changes in almost 13 years, so the town is ecstatic about the new company.
"We've had H&H Huxted with us for about 13 years, so this is a change we haven't had in a while. GFL gets all the commercial business part of the deal. Commercial businesses should find it's a bit cheaper this time around, so that's always good news," explained Fielding.
"They sometimes keep on the same staff, so it shouldn't really be much of a difference. If there are any issues, people are welcome to contact the town and ask any questions," added Fielding.
GFL Environmental Inc. will have the full contract for solid waste collection with the Town of Drumheller on February 6, 2017.
"They're a national company and have been around for a long time with a lot of experience in garbage waste collection, so we're pleased to have them on board," mentioend Fielding.
