Drumheller's tourist season will be a little bit longer this summer thanks to a group of RV'ers from across Alberta and British Columbia.
RVwest and Rec-vee Holiday Adventures are teaming up to bring their annual RV Rally to the valley.
"This is the first time in Drumheller, "noted organizer Duane Pilson of Rec-vee. "We're on the 11th or 12th rally: most of them have been southern Alberta and southern BC. This is the first time we've had one in east central Alberta."
"We did one at Stettler two years ago, then last year we had to cancel because of the economy," he recalled. "I decided to draw up something close to where we live, which is Calgary, (and) Drumheller seemed to have all the necessary elements."
The rally members will stay at the Dinosaur Trail RV Resort west of Cactus Coulee Fun Park from September 15-18 and visit a number of tourist attractions around the valley, including the Royal Tyrrell Museum.
"The majority of them come from BC and Alberta," noted Pilson. "The average (rally) runs around 25-35 units, so you're looking at about 70 people. Some of them have been to as many as seven or eight of the rallies."
He said some of the members he's contacted plan to arrive a couple days early or stay an extra couple of days to catch more of what the valley has to offer.
Pilson is happy with his choice of Drumheller for this year's RV Rally. He noted the Town of Drumheller and Travel Drumheller have both been very cooperative in helping to set up the event.
