The renovations that began on the Royal Tyrrell Museum last year, are still on time to for the expected opening.

The $9.3 million expansion has the steel structural skeleton almost completed and crews are working on structural decking on the upper floor and roof.

"Work on the expansion of the Tyrrell Museum is continuing; it is going really well, the schedule is on track with the expected opening in Febraury 2019," said Tracy Larson from Alberta Infastructure.

The expansion is estimated to be a total of 14,000 square feet in size.

"It is exciting because it is expanding the museum quite significantly, and it is going to give them more opportunity to have classrooms and learning laboratory spaces," advised Larson.

The expansion will also house more multipurpose area for programming and conferences, as well as a hands on discovery area and a rest area for the family.

"Over the coming weeks, the lower level of the addition is going to be all boarded, and then heated, so then inside the workers will begin electrical rough-in work," explained Larson.
