A woman who made her mark in Drumheller with the Canadian Badlands Passion Play continues to rack up credits in the Alberta film industry.
Shawna Pliva, who now resides near Balzac, north of Calgary, has been working steadily for the past couple of years.
"My daughter and I have one coming up that's one of the Story Hives projects; it's another short film called Yard Sale and we film that next month," she reported. "I just finished doing stunts on a web series called One Hit Die (and) I've got a role on Wynonna Earp, which is another Alberta filmed television series for Netflix."
In addition to acting roles, including Mary mother of Jesus in the TV special Daughters of Eve, Pliva has expanded her repertoire to include stunt work, which she really enjoys. She credits a lot of her success to exposure from her work with the Passion Play.
"I'd taken quite a few years off from acting and I was looking for something to do that summer and that's when I discovered the Passion Play," she recalled of her first year in the valley. "I started off as an actor with my daughter (and) that transitioned into becoming the assistant music director, and then when they started filming again roles started, fortunately, falling in my lap."
Pliva has a co-starring role in a locally shot film that debuts on CBC Television on Thursday, April 26 called 'Consume.' She portrays the wife of the lead character played by Julian Black Antelope.
"It's amazing because you get to see more of Drumheller and it showcases just the beauty of Drumheller," she told 99.5 Drum FM. "It's a dark story, I'm not going to lie to you, but you get to see some local talent, some local places and it supports the area.
