It's the time of year when Drumhellions start watching the the Red Deer River closely.

Operators of the Dickson Dam, west of Red Deer, have informed Town staff that water will be released today (April 7) from the Glennifer Lake in anticipation of mountain runoff.

"They're starting to release some water and it will be coming through Drumheller in a few hours, you'll start to notice an increase and over the weekend but the amounts they're talking about is certainly nothing to be concerned with," explained Mayor Terry Yemen.

He added residents may not notice the increase in water levels but wants to ensure everybody is aware a water release is planned.

Yemen praises the communication from the Dickson Dam operators, especially since 2013.
