Since the snow hasn't fallen yet, the Nacmine outdoor rink has been under some renovations.
"We're actually replacing the boards. They've only been up for about eight years, but they're really starting to rot especially around the bottom. We're taking all the boards down and all the rotten boards that they fasten to have to be replaced as well," stated one of the volunteers, Cindy Thomas.
Since this work is all volunteer base, Thomas noted that they could use more volunteers for tonight (August 9) to remove the rest of the rotten boards.
"We went in and had about six people that were working this past Monday and we got a little over half the boards off already. A few people came out yesterday and did a few more boards, so we've probably got about a third of the boards left to go," outlined Thomas.
"The six people on Monday took us about four hours and if we can get a dozen people out there tonight we would be done in no time, maybe an hour or two."
The volunteers needed won't have to worry about putting new boards up, but maybe helping paint in future weeks.
"The Town of Drumheller is actually going to come in and replace the boards. They're going to take away all the old ones, get rid of them for us, they're bringing in all the new boards and they're going to be installing them for us," Thomas mentioned.
"I can't wait until this winter when the boards are up, get it flooded and see some people out there enjoying it again. I love going out in the winter and hearing the sounds of the pucks hitting the boards, so it's going to be awesome to have the new ones up."
