The RBC Make 150 Count fundraising initiative went a lot further than expected thanks to a local man.

Mitch Smith used the $150 given by RBC as part of their Canada 150 promotion to start an online auction through Facebook.

"It went awesome, we had lots of bidders and all the items went for more than their value," beamed Smith.

The auction, including the $150, collected $2,027, which will go towards the Good Food Box program in Drumheller. The program allows residents to buy a yearly membership which entitles them to a box of fruits and vegetables at a discount price. The money raised through the auction is enough produce to feed eight families for an entire year.

"All the winners are picking up and paying for their items, so hopefully sometime next week we will be able to donate that money to the Good Food Box," said Smith.

Items up for bids included gift certificates, watches, virtual reality set, gift baskets and more.

"A big thank you to everyone who was bidding and all the donors," smiled Smith.
