Albertans go to the polls on October 16 to elect new municipal government members and school board representatives, and it looks like people in Drumheller are going to have quite a selection.
No fewer than 17 individuals had submitted nomination forms by the 12:00 p.m. deadline on Monday, September 18 for one of six Drumheller town councillor seats.
The incumbent councillors are Jay Garbutt, Lisa Hansen-Zacharuk, Patrick Kolafa, Tara McMillan and Tom Zariski. The new candidates, in alphabetical order, are Kristyn DeMott, Len Denbrok, Margaret English, Elizabeth Gallagher, John Graham,  Allan Kendrick, Tony Lacher, Fred Makowecki, Dwayne Nagy, Greg Polzin, Peter Rhodes and Kalon Sykes.
Candidates have 24 hours to reconsider their nomination, so things do not become official until noon on Tuesday, September 19.
The mayor's race has only two entrants and they are both new to the job.  Incumbent Terry Yemen did not file papers to seek a third term as Drumheller's mayor. The declared candidates are four term councillor Sharel Shoff and well known volunteer organizer Heather Colberg.
