A Town of Drumheller Employee has won the respect of his peers in the Facility Maintenance Department.
Jason Rafter attended the Alberta Association of Recreation Facility Personnel (AARFP) Building Maintenance 2 course and was the recipient of their Top Mark Award.
"There were 72 Alberta recipients last year through the Alberta Recreation Facility that took this course and out of the 72, nine of them got 100 per cent," explained Reg Bennett, who heads up the Facility Maintenance crews in Drumheller. "There could be only one winner so they all submitted an essay and he was the lucky winner."
"They paid for his conference entrance, they gave him an Alberta plaque that says 'Building Maintenance 2' and a personal cheque for $250."
Rafter's winning essay topic was how he can use what he learned on the Building Maintenance 2 course in his job with the town.
"We're in charge of looking after the arena when the ice is in," explained Bennett. "When the ice is not in we're in charge of the fountain, splash park and we're also in charge of all facility maintenance for the town."
Rafter received his award at the AARFP Annual Conference and Awards Banquet on April 25 at the River Cree Resort and Casino near Edmonton.
