It's just over a month until Drumheller and area residents get their first look at the new indoor pool at the Aquaplex.
Crews have been hard at work since the first week of May jackhammering out the old pool and much of the accompanying infrastructure to make way for a gradual entry pool liner to accomodate people with small children.
"It's a very complicated project, it's not simply putting a bathtub liner in a bathtub," noted Darryl Drohomerski, the town's Director of Infrastructure Services. "There's new plumbing throughout the facility, there's new electrical to be able to run the new steam room, the hot tub, et cetera."
In addition to the gradual entry pool, the renovations include a relocated hot tub and a new steam room and men's locker room.
"When we're done, this facility will look spectacular," predicted Drohomerski. "It won't look anything like it was six months ago, before we closed it up."
He told 99.5 Drum FM the project is proceeding on budget, however unexpected delays have put them a little behind schedule.
"It's still progressing (and) everyone's working really hard to make their schedules," said Drohomerski. "It's looks like it's going to be a wonderful treat for the community when it's done."
