The Town of Drumheller is getting behind the ParticipACTION 150 playlist as part of the Canada 150 celebrations.
The playlist encourages residents to try a new activity each month throughout the year. For example, Pickle ball and curling are being highlighted for the month of February.
"We're organizing many events celebrating activities that many of us participate in and some that maybe some of us haven't participated in or don't even know about," said Darren Goldthorpe, Manager of Recreation, Arts and Culture in Drumheller.
The Town has set up a Facebook page where residents can follow what events and activities will be promoted each month and people will have the opportunity to post their own activities.
"We encourage organizations (and) groups in the Town of Drumheller and area who are planning things to really think about how they can incorporate Canada 150 into their events or the ParticipACTION 150 activities," explained Goldthorpe.
We've also got the calander on the Town website, so we're going to start putting them (activities and events) up on there as well," added Julia Fielding, Economic Development and Communications Officer. "I know the Atlas Coal Mine has already shared something on our Facebook page, on the 150, so share it. Maybe you're doing a fun activity, a barbecue or anything, let us know and we'd like to spread the word so that people can join you."
A Pickle ball open house is scheduled for February 16 starting at 11:30 a.m. at the Badlands Community Facility. Goldthorpe mentioned they have the instructors and all necessary equipment needed to try the sport.
