Drumheller got a little moisture Monday night, but is it enough to lift fire restrictions that were imposed on the town earlier this month?
In a word, no, said Drumheller Fire Chief Bruce Wade.
"I don't want to be taking it off and putting it (back) on," he told 99.5 Drum FM. "Until we get a couple of good days of rain, she's still going to be 27 or 28 (degrees Celsius) for the rest of the week."
"We'll see what the weather does for the next day or so, but for the time being, no, we still have the restriction on."
Under the current Drumheller fire ban, the only things that are allowed are indoor fireplaces and outdoor gas appliances. Campfires, burning barrels and even charcoal barbecues are a no-no.
"When it starts getting a little cooler in the evenings it helps retain some moisture in the ground," Wade noted hopefully. "(However) we'll leave it on for now and see what happens in the next day or so weatherwise."
