Speed demons will have to look out for a new playground zone in town.

There is a new playground zone in front of Little Explorers Childcare on 3rd Street West.

"We have been here since 2011," explained Day Care Director for Little Explorers, Jannelle Storch. "It has always been an issue with cars driving very fast up and down the street. We deal with young children, and when parents are taking their children out of their vehicle, as much as they would like them to stay in one place, they are 2 and 3 years old, so they like to wander."

After noticing the problem, Storch took to the town to get a playground zone sign installed.

"We thought by doing a playground zone, it would eliminate those fast cars driving where they might not see those in time. I submitted a letter to the Town of Drumheller back in October and we got it. The bylaw officer came and checked us out, and made sure that it would be proper grounds for a playground zone. He agreed with me and since then, it has been great," continued Storch.

Storch went on to say that she has already noticed vehicles slowing down more since the sign has been up, but is some more work to be done.

"The other thing I would like to see coming because we are also out of school care as well, we take our children too and from the bus every day and we have to cross 3rd Ave, and people are going very fast along that street too. I am hoping in this new year we can rectify that as well. I just hope that people will start to slow down when they see children on the road," she concluded.
