A popular trend amongst men during November calls for them to grow moustaches.

Movember exists to increase awareness and raise money for prostate cancer and men's health.

"We're really pushing to get more people participating, fundraising, growing a moustache and talking about their health," said Sam Swain, Movember Calgary Committe co-chair. "If we can give them a fun way to start the conversation then that's great."

"Movember has been around for about 11 years now, but it did start in Australia and it only came over to Canada 7 or so years ago," notes Swain.

The Movember Calgary Committee has put on a variety of moustache themed events, which will wrap up with their gala on November 25.

"You can always grow a moustache and throw your own events," explained Swain. "Movember is very grassroots and it started with a couple of guys wanting to do something for men's health so they started growing moustaches and raising funds. Anybody can do that and you can have a great moustache themed event."

Swain added that a Movember themed event in Drumheller could be in the works for next year.
