There were lots of smiles on both sides of the counter on Wednesday, May 2 as Drumheller celebrated McHappy Day.

The annual event raises money for Ronald McDonald Childrens Charities, which operates homes in Red Deer and Calgary for families with children in the hospital.

"Drumheller pulled out all the stops; they just kept coming and we raised $7,346," reported Summer Manca, who operates the local McDonald's with her husband Greg. "Last year we were under $6,500, so it definitely came in over and above."

Dozens of 'very important people' donated their time to help at the counter and drive-through and to sell McHappy merchandise to the customers.

"We say it every year, but it's not lost on us how the community comes together for this great charity," remarked Greg Manca. "Everyone digs deep and we know how blessed we are and we really appreciate everyone's support."

"We saw it in the community and we saw it in the VIP's and the team that we get to work with every day at McDonald's," he continued. "Everything came together again this year, obviously, so we want to say thank-you, thank-you, thank-you."
