Wednesday, May 3 was a McHappy Day for a lot of people in Drumheller and area and it will hopefully make some other people happy down the road.
McDonald's Restaurants across Canada mark the day every year for donations to Ronald McDonald House Children's Charities and the Drumheller location was busy as volunteers stepped up to help.
"Our total is $6,244," announced Summer Manca, who owns the Drumheller franchise along with her husband, Greg. "It's $5 at a time generally; there are people who drop off larger donations, but generally its $1 to $5 at a time."
That's a little over $300 more than was raised locally with McHappy Day 2016.
"I love the fact that there is so much community involvement," enthused Greg Manca. "Every year people just seem to dig a little bit deeper, whether it's VIP's or people coming through for that extra cup of coffee, we really appreciate everyone getting behind Ronald McDonald's Chiildrens Charities."
There are two recipients for McHappy Day money in south and central Alberta, added Summer.
"What we do here is split it between the two houses, which are Red Deer and Calgary. We just take the total, split it in half and send it to each house."
