Every year for the past 41 years, there is a triple-A midget hockey tournament held in Calgary called the Mac's Midget Tournament. Nearly all of the players that currently play on the Drumheller Dragons have played in the Mac's tournament.

With the events that had happened off the ice in this past year with the Humboldt Broncos and Ryan McBeath, the Mac's went with a theme of "Stronger Together".

In last years final game, Dragons alumni, Ryan McBeath, and Adam Herold, who played for the Regina Pat Canadians and Humboldt Broncos, met up for the championship. Tragically, both Ryan and Adam passed away in accidents in the past year.macspic2

The tournament organizers were searching through last years photos for the poster for this year's tournament and came up with a picture of Ryan and Adam tangled up in the corner. "Wow, sometimes things just happen for a reason, don't know why but we had that picture and we decided to use it on the poster", remarked Chris Turnbull, Vice Chair of the Mac's Tournament and Media Liazon.

"You know they both gave their heart and soul and they earned their respect and admiration from their teammates with that heart and soul. It was a one-two gut punch for us, 2018, at the Mac's Tournament. It is one of those things you just never want to see happen again", exclaimed Turnbull.christurnbullChris Turnbull, Vice-Chair Mac's Midget Hockey Tournament; photo courtesy of Chris Turnbull

This honour has not gone unnoticed by the family. Barry McBeath, Ryan's father was very surprised by this. "We got contacted back in October about it and said they wanted to use the picture on their brochure and I hadn't heard any more from them". "I saw that (the poster) the other day and that just really blew me away".

It is a great way to honour two players that were dedicated to the game and are missed by many.
