Drumheller hunting enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that the town could be going ahead with a pheasant hunt.
The event would attract local hunters as well as visiting ones.
"Brooks started this years ago and it was very successful," explained Mayor Terry Yemen. "Stettler does it, Taber does it and I think Rosemary is going to come on this year. There is an opportunity for Drumheller to do it too."
"We talk about wanting to things in the off season, this is certainly an opportunity to something in the off season," noted Yemen. "It would be a whole weekend long activity. You could bring in 300 to 400 people and they would need hotels and restaurants."
Some event coordinating still has to be done and Yemen encourages anyone interested to contact the Drumheller Chamber of Commerce.
"Through the cooperation with the landowners you have pheasants raised specifically for this hunt and then spend the weekend hunting. There is a banquet afterwards," said Yemen. "Not all the pheasants end up getting shot so it does help to seed the local population."
Yemen added that the pheasant hunt would be a great opportunity for economic development.
