It takes a lot of time and effort to run a town, including a lot of things done by ordinary citizens on a volunteer basis.
The Town of Drumheller is going to honour those people with a night of their own later this month.
"We're going to feature Hoja, which is an interactive comedy-musical troupe; they do all their own music through beat box sounds and stuff like that," noted Judy Quintin Arvidson of the town's Community Services Department. "The doors are open at 5:00 (p.m.), dinner from 5:30 to 6:30 catered by Bernie and the Boys, Hoja begins at 6:30 to 7:30 and we'll draw for the door prizes from 7:30 until 8:00."
The Volunteer Appreciation Night will be held at the Badlands Community Facility on Tuesday, April 25.
"When they see the level of food and entertainment that we line up for them to thank them for all that they do in a year, it's one of our favorite events," Quintin-Arvidson told 99.5 Drum FM. "One of the things that we like to do the most is treat our volunteers to an evening of appreciation."
"If you don't have volunteers you don't have events, it just can't happen, there aren't enough staff members in the town and there aren't enough people on payroll to make anything happen without volunteers," she stated. "That includes things like casinos, that bring in such big money, and things like the Humane Society that help the little ones. You just need volunteers for everything,"
You do have to pre-register by calling Judy at 403-823-1324 by April 18 at the latest. There is a cutoff of 150 guests.
