The longest continuously running community fundraiser for the STARS air ambulance service is back this summer for the 28th year.
The Rumsey Trail Ride for STARS will be held at the TL-Bar Ranch south of Trochu.
"We just crossed over the $700,000 mark," reported Rob Richmond, who handles publicity for the organizers. "We raised just about $40,000 last year, which was absolutely incredible."
This year's ride is scheduled for Sunday, August 13, 2017.
"We're actually dedicating it to our president and long time organizer and rider, the immortal Ernie Goddard," added Richmond. "We kind of started doing this a couple years ago, giving some people some props."
Each rider pledges a minimum of $20 for STARS and there are all sorts of other fund raising efforts, including meals, raffles and a silent auction. There's also entertainment with Jill Brody and her Ducks and Dogs.
"She actually trains dogs for rounding up cows and sheep and that kind of thing," noted Richmond. "She brings down ducks from her farm, puts them out and then directs her dog to round these ducks back up."
