There are just over 400 students attending St. Anthony's School in Drumheller this year and almost all of them hit the street on Thursday, September 28 to join the fight against cancer.
The 2017 Terry Fox School Run is one of the biggest fundraisers the school does each year, said run organizer Maureen Peters.
"We are at $8,800 and change," she reported. "It looks like we're going to be hitting $9,000, I think."
That's $1,500 more than their pre-run goal of $7,500 for the Terry Fox Foundation.
"Sure, it's a huge success, especially in this economy," stated Peters. "You see around Drumheller, there's lots of vacancies and empty homes. Yeah, it's really good."
"We had some really hard little workers out there," she continued. "We have one kindergartener alone that raised $1,205."
A final tally from Thursday, walk, along with a breakdown of donations, should be available next week.
