A local Airdrie band is attempting to hit the big stage with 80's rock band Bon Jovi.
"Bon Jovi is a big idol of ours, we look up to him and his band quite a bit because he's quite a philanthropist and he's a hard working guy. He's a good guy to look up to," stated Brad Fleischer, vocals and guitarist for the Aridrie band Flaysher.
"Our music is inspired by Bon Jovi quite a bit and a lot of people that have seen us over the years know that. A lot of people were actually suggesting it to us over social media just saying that this is meant for us."
Fleischer added that he took his time studying the contest to make sure he knew how everything would play out, plus studying other videos helped give a few ideas on how to create his own entry.
"After I did my research, I came up with a better plan on how to put together the video. I sat down and I just got to work, luckily we've got a lot of footage of live events that we've done over the past eight years. It just comes down to spending the time to go through that footage and piece together what they're looking for," noted Fleischer.
Although Flaysher is a Canadian band, they're shooting to become the opening act for Bon Jovi's Pittsburgh show on April 5.
"I think a lot of Canadian bands were shooting for Toronto for obvious reasons, but I started thinking about it (and) the fact of the matter is I think it would be cool to do the Pittsburgh show. It's close enough to New Jersey, which is actually where the band is from, so I think it would be cool to do the trip down and work that all in," he outlined.
So, how do you end up winning the contest?
"It's not voting so to speak, but there is a sharing aspect through our Facebook page, Flaysher. The top post is a link to Bon Jovi's site where all the entries are there, but the link directs you directly to our video on the site," Fleischer explained. "We're getting close to 350 I think and that's actually pretty impressive compared to some of the other numbers I've been seeing on the site."
Fleischer, and his band mates, expressed that even if they don't win the contest this will get their name out there and hopefully grab the attention of the right people.
