The Canada Post Community Foundation just received an extraordinary donation thanks to the Drumheller Post Office and the town's residents.
From September 29 until October 30, the Drumheller location held a silent auction to help raise money for a great cause.
"We raised $1,229 from our auction and with people coming up to our till and donating, (we raised) over $1,400. It was really good," stated Renee Michon with Canada Post in Drumheller. "We were very pleased with it and we're very excited to do it again next year. It was great to have the community support."
Michon mentioned that any donations received within Alberta stay within Alberta.
"It goes towards the Canada Post Community Foundation for children. In the spring, they come out with an application to apply for the grants for the children's groups across Canada," explained Michon. "In the spring, if these children's groups apply for the grants, they may be a recipient of one. We're hoping that (if) more groups know about this grant, they'll apply for it."
"I know (the) Three Hills Library children's group received $3,000 this year. Same with Beiseker, their library got some too," added Michon.
So, how can one learn more about this foundation?
"In the spring we get a little tear-away pad that people can come in and tear a piece of paper off. These have the instructions on how to apply. I think the Canada Post website has a link to it as well," outlined Michon. "It's www.canadapost.ca/communityfoundation."
