Local musicians took over the stage during the Calgary Stampede Talent Search this past weekend.
Abby Fooks and Ashton Lal have been part of the local music scene for quite some time now, but have only started performing together for the past couple months.
"Abby and I have always talked together about playing together, so we finally got together and played a little bit. She messaged me and asked if we wanted to try for the Stampede," stated percussionist Ashton Lal.
So, were either of you nervous competing in such a big talent competition?
"I like performing with him because it takes a bit of weight off me with not being as nervous when I'm performing. It's a lot of fun because we do more upbeat stuff, especially out Stampede performances there. I personally think it was one of the best performances we have both done," expressed Abby Fooks.
"We've both mostly just done stuff in town where you know most people. At the Stampede you're up against so many good acts and talented people, so it's very nerve-wrecking going up there," noted Lal.
For Lal and Fook's big number, they performed Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye.
"We did two showcase events on the Friday and Sunday of Stampede and we rode on the back of a horse and buggy which was pretty cool. We got to sing on that back of it, we did some upbeat songs like Guns N' Roses," Fooks concluded.
