Currently, China is unwilling to work with our government on the trade of canola, which is something that has farmers in our area very concerned. We reached out to our Member of Parliament for Battle River - Crowfoot, Kevin Sorenson, to see what the Canadian Government is doing about this issue.

"The canola ban to China is a very big issue and we have just seen nothing really. In fact, I would say our agreements with China and our relationship to China is at an all-time low," explained Sorenson.

China has deemed Canadian canola to be unsafe for their consumers. Sorenson believes Canadian farmers produce the highest quality of canola in the world and is greatly concerned about what is happening with China.

"I do not believe for a moment that our canola is unsafe. I think it was an absolute push back from our decision to extradite Huawei executives to the United States when we had to do that, but there has been no diplomacy, nothing to try to solve this big problem with China," concluded Sorenson.

Many farmers in our area feel the need for this situation to be dealt with in a timely manner to get China to lift their ban on Canadian canola.
