A recent announcement from the Government of Alberta has local artists excited and looking forward to January.

"The Minister of Culture and Tourism has announced a proclamation that January 2019 will be the first Month of The Artist in Alberta. It will be something that will go year afterEllen 2Art by Ellen Nobel year," explained local artist Ellen Nobel.

Nobel has been painting for over forty years and has a degree in Fine Arts. She is excited to see the government pay homage to Artists.

"There are vast and diverse opportunities for art in the cities, but we don't need to travel far to see art. We can look at art in our local community, visit our local galleries, attend our local functions. The artist would usually love someone come up and say 'what are you doing? Tell me about it.' Artist usually loves to share and talk about their work," she continued.

According to a news release from the Alberta Government, about 85 per cent of Albertans feel that art activities are important in contributing to the overall quality of life in Alberta, and 87 per cent feel that arts and culture activities make their community a better place to live. Something that Nobel agrees with whole-heartedly.

"I'm really pleased about this, and to find that Alberta is the first of Canada to recognize this is phenomenal. It will be a whole month where we can celebrate it. It's wonderful," concluded Nobel.
