A local student has been accepted into a prestigious STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) program.

Fatima Rehan will be attending SHAD at the University of Waterloo for the month of July where she will gain experience mostly in the areas of business and science.

"I want to explore the different fields of business and sciences, meet new people, and know where I want to go for my future education," explained Rehan.

Waterloo is one of the 13 universities that hosts approximately 50 SHAD students each summer.

"At the program it would be like meeting a lot of professors and guest speakers, we have to do projects and then there is also physical activity," said Rehan.

She will attend the program starting on July 2 until July 28.

"Well we are going to be living on campus for a month and attending classes so it is kind of like school but at the same time very different," she added.

The SHAD program has produced 16,000 alumni and 32 Rhodes Scholars.
