The Drumheller Public Library is celebrating Canada's 150th birthday in a unique way.

From July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018 all new library cards will be free.

"It's been something we've looking at for quite a while and Canada 150 seemed like a great time to see if we can make it happen and the Society was able to help us out in a big way with that," explained Library Director Emily Hollingshead.

The Drumheller Library Society is teaming up with the library to fund the initiative which aims to bring in more people to the library.

"We're hoping this will get them in the door to see all the stuff we have to offer them," Hollingshead said.

Cards will be available at the library front desk.
